Experience a New Way to Learn with Tacoma Flex!

High school students at Tacoma Public Schools now have an exciting opportunity to take control of their schedules with Tacoma Flex. By enrolling in some online classes while continuing others in person, you can create a learning experience that suits your lifestyle and goals!

How Tacoma Flex Works

Maximize your schedule’s flexibility by taking up to two online courses at the start or end of your school day. These courses, taught by Tacoma teachers, are conveniently housed on the district’s Edgenuity platform. The rest of your classes will continue in person at your high school.

Jumpstart your Tacoma Flex journey by filling out the Tacoma Flex course request form below. This form will be sent to your school counselor for evaluation and scheduling. Keep an eye on your email for updates and instructions, which will be sent to your TPS account.

Why Choose Tacoma Flex?

Tacoma Flex is perfect for students with jobs, family commitments, or those seeking a more adaptable schedule. Consider the benefits:

• Flexibility to take courses not otherwise available.
• Potential health benefits from a later start time for in-person classes—take your FLEX courses in the morning!
• Personalized learning pace and environment.

Note:

• Parental consent is required.
• School bus transportation isn't available for FLEX participants, but ORCA cards for public transit will be provided.

Course Load and Scheduling

Students can enroll in 1 or 2 Tacoma FLEX courses. These courses will allow for Early Dismissal, Late Arrival, or both at your high school, making room for your online classes.

Responsibilities with Tacoma FLEX

Tacoma FLEX courses are part of an Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) and come with some additional responsibilities:

• Weekly Communication: Stay connected with Tacoma FLEX staff through a combination of emails and Microsoft Forms. This is a state requirement, and missing communications can result in removal from the program.
• Adequate Monthly Progress: Maintain passing grades (D or above, 60%) to remain in the program. Falling behind may require extra help from teachers or, ultimately, removal from FLEX.
