Summer Jobs 253
Summer Jobs 253 offers TPS freshman and sophomores the opportunity to earn high school credit for graduation while gaining meaningful work experience through community service and financial literacy training. Recruitment starts in December and students are selected in January. Students start the program in February with a preparatory online course that is self-directed through Schoology. Students receive a .5 credit for completing the course and become eligible for the paid summer program where they can earn up to $1,000 and an additional .5 credit.
The Summer Jobs Program will consist of three components or phases; 1) Job Readiness Training, 2) Community Service Project Preparation, 3) Community Service Project.
Our youth summer employment program provides Tacoma high school students with:
- 75 hours of job training and experience
- High school credit
- An academic completion bonus
- Basic work readiness
- Resume/interview skills
- Increased self-confidence and personal growth
